IS PORCELAIN PAVING REALLY MAINTENANCE FREE?

Modern grey porcelain paving tiles exterior porcelain patio low maintenance

Last week we paid one of our clients a visit to get their thoughts on our Porcelain Paving six months on from their patio build. Read our Q & A with Hampshire based Mr Whittingham and get some insight into what some of the south’s property owners are thinking when choosing a paving surface.

Miles Stone:
When you were first shopping for paving you mentioned to us that you had ease of maintenance as one of your top priorities in a patio surface – is that why you chose our Iseo Grey Porcelain?
Mr Whittingham:
That’s right, my main concern was keeping the patio clean in the long term. The concrete slabs the developer had used when they made the property held onto every drop of dirt and algae. After a week of rain the slabs would always look very dirty and they were not easily cleaned. To get them looking good again you really needed to jet wash them each time – something I don’t want to be doing often! I was initially looking at some hard wearing natural stone options but as soon as I found out about the properties of porcelain, that was the obvious choice. I picked the Iseo Grey from you because I wanted a pale grey with stone-like markings. A lot of the grey ceramic tiles can just look like poured concrete. Your Iseo Grey has a lot of the beauty of a natural product – that’s what I liked.

Miles Stone:
So, nearly six months on from having it laid how easy has it been to keep clean? Are all of the maintenance-free claims warranted?
Mr Whittingham:
In short they have been brilliant! My old concrete slabs were almost impossible to clean properly without use of a power washer. Now all I need do is hose my patio and brush it with a stiff brush – it’s then as good as new! None of the dirt sticks to them – it’s exactly what I wanted. Strangely I now clean the patio much more regularly – it only takes a few minutes so when I’m outside I often give it a wash and a sweep. The result is that it’s not only easier to clean but it’s cleaner much more of the time. It was definitely the right choice.

Miles Stone:
Fantastic stuff. Good to know our products live up to their billing. Are there any more plans for your garden?
Mr Whittingham:
I still have a couple of paths made out of the old concrete slabs that I want to change to the Iseo Grey. That will be done next year I think – then I’ll only have to worry about the rate the garden is growing rather than spend time jet washing paving!
