CREATING A SWIMMING POOL SURROUND FROM EXTERIOR PORCELAIN PAVING TILES

Swimming pool builds almost always look fantastic – especially in locations by the water but this build we were lucky enough to supply last year was very special. Featuring uninterrupted views of a beautiful riverside harbour this Hampshire home has been extensively renovated over the years the owner has lived here and last year it was finally time for the garden to take centre-stage.

The objective for this scheme was to create an outdoor living space that would be an extension of the house and enable true outdoor living in the summer months. The plans included an outdoor kitchen, a hot tub, a covered seating area, a swimming pool and even a sauna! The initial requirements for the build was to choose a paving option that complemented the house design and that was crucially slip resistant as the owner planned to have a hot-tub on one level with a swimming pool on the lower terrace area. A big priority was resistance to staining in some form as the lower tier was also to feature a plumbed outdoor kitchen and our clients were worried about food and drink spillages – they really wanted to avoid paving that would be tough to clean or that would hold onto stains. All these stipulations meant that porcelain paving looked like the only material that would fulfil the needs of the project. Porcelain paving is ideal as not only is it very resistant to staining our range is R11 rated for slip resistance ensuring that anyone trying skids by the pool should find it quite hard to slip up and blame the paving for an injury!

As the colour scheme for the house was a mix of white, blue and slate greys our Trentino Grey Paving was the eventual choice by the client and we think it’s a perfect accompaniment and makes for a gorgeous garden space. What made this project extra special for us was the bespoke work we put into the pool surround. The client really wanted the pool area to look purpose built and wanted the tactility of bull-nose edged pool copings. Here we created double thickness copings with a full bullnose edge – gorgeous!
